Sangakkara and Jayawardene to sign up for Master’s League

Sangakkara and Jayawardene to sign up for Master’s League. Kumar Sangakkara will end his career in August and Mahela Jayawardene retired earlier this year.

There is a speculation that Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene are going to sign up for Master’s League, a league featuring retired cricketers to be played in United Arab Emirates in 2016.

Mahela Jayawardene retired from international cricket earlier this year, playing the ICC World Cup 2015 as his last tournament, scoring a match winning century against Afghanistan. Kumar Sangakkara also bid adieu to ODI cricket after the World Cup, scoring 4 centuries on a trot. He will also say good bye to Test and international cricket after playing the first two Tests against India, scheduled in August this year.

The Master’s League is floated on the similar lines to IPL, with retired cricketers playing matches in Dubai and UAE. Kumar Sangakkara who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mahela Jayawardene who played for Delhi Daredevils, could not find a team to bid for them considering their age. A scenario which is not going to change in future.

“The league has been planned around the lines of there being immense value for nostalgia. Who wouldn’t like to see Wasim Akram or an Adam Gilchrist in action once again. The likes of Sangakkara and Jayawardene will, therefore, add great value,” said the league officials.

Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene are amongst the celebrated list of batsmen who have scored 11,000 runs in Test cricket.
