Rugby World Cup 2015 Pools and Fixtures: We have stepped into the month of September and all the Rugby lovers are eagerly waiting for the 2015 Rugby World Cup to begin, which starts from 18th September and gone on till 31 October. All the roads in England will point towards Twickenham Stadium in London, where the final will be hosted. In our first editions, let us get to know about the pools and the teams of the eighth Rugby World Cup.
We have 20 teams competing at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, out of which 12th of them have qualified by finishing in the top three places in their pools in the 2011 Rugby World Cup. The remaining eight teams pushed their cases through regional competitions.
The quadrennial rugby union world championship has two teams divided into two Pools, Pool A and Pool B.
Pool A of the Rugby World Cup will start with their matches from 18th September 2015 and they would finish by 10th of October. What will be interesting in Pool A will be the presence of host country England along with Australia and Wales, who in the last edition ended the competition on third and fourth position respectively. Joining these three teams will be two qualifiers, Fiji and Uruguay. With teams of such caliber, no wonder it is being termed as the ‘Group of Death’.
The first match of Pool A will be played between England and Fiji at the Twickenham Stadium, London and will have South African Jaco Peyper as the referee.
Like the way England starts with Pool A matches, it will also play the last match of the Pool against Uruguay on October 10 in City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester.
Now, let’s see what the other Pool has to offer during the World Cup. What teams are there and how much competition it poses for each other.
Pool B of the Rugby World Cup starts with their matches from 19th September and would complete their league matches by 11th October. This Pool consists of stronger teams like South Africa, Samoa, Scotland, and two other qualifiers Japan and the United States of America.
Pool B will witness the first competition between South Africa and Japan at the Falmer Stadium in Brighton on 19th September.
The last match of Pool B will see a tough battle between two qualifiers USA and Japan. The two teams will take on each other at Kingsholm in Gloucester.
Pool C has the teams like the defending champion New Zealand, Argentina and Tonga who qualified automatically for the tournament after finishing in the top three positions in their pools in the 2011 tournament, along with the top European and African qualifiers Georgia and Namibia. Pool C will start its game from September 19.
Pool D, which will also hit the stadiums on September 9, comprises of 2011 runner-up France along with Italy and Ireland. They would later be joined by qualified nations Canada and Romania.
