Let’s understand how the points will come into use in the World Cup.
All the teams of different pools will play one match each against other teams of their own pool. For example, New Zealand from Pool C will play their matches against other members of the same pool. Winners’ team will get four points while the loser will have to go home empty handed.
If the match ends up in a draw, then the points would be shared (2 points each).
In the World Cup matches, there is also a bonus point for the teams when they score four or more ‘tries’ in a match.
Not only the winning team but much to our surprises, even the losing teams can earn the bonus point if it loses by seven or fewer points.
According to the point system of the World Cup, the top two teams will succeed to the next level of quarter-final matches and then the teams plays knock-out stage to reach the semis and the finals.
First three positions of each pool will automatically qualify for the Next World Cup which will be played in 2019, Japan.
