Most Expensive Players buy at IPL 2016 Auction: The much-awaited Indian Premier League 2016 auction went underway with all the teams including the new franchises of Pune and Gujarat ready to build up a team for the upcoming season of IPL. The auction saw some surprising tactics with players like Martin Guptill, George Bailey and Darren Sammy going unsold and some unseen players like Kishore Kamath getting a price of over 2 crores.

Here are the top 10 most expensive buys in the recently concluded IPL auction 2016:

1. Sanju Samson - Rs. 4.2 cr DD

Sanju Samson became one of the most consistent match winners for the Rajasthan team and this auction finally saw him get his worth. He was bought by the Delhi team for 4.2 INR in the auction. He can play both the anchor role and the hitter role when needed and Delhi surely bought themselves a great player, who is seen as the future of Indian cricket.

2. Deepak Hooda – Rs. 4.2 cr SRH

Rajasthan Royal’s hard hitting youngster Deepak Hooda went for 4.2 cr INR by the Hyderabad team. Hooda is known for hitting the ball from the onset and he displayed his skill in the previous edition of the IPL for the Rajasthan team. His off break bowling comes in as an added advantage.

3. Murugan Ashwin – Rs. 4.6 cr RPS

A totally unknown name, Tamin Nadu’s leg spinner Murugan Ashwin was bought by the Pune franchise for a whopping 4.6 cr INR. He had his base price set at 10 lakhs and surprising was fought over by the Pune and Gujarat franchise. He had taken 10 wickets in 6 matches in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy.

4. Mitchell Marsh – Rs. 4.8 cr RPS

Aussie all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was a hot pick at the auction and was bought by the Pune team for 4.8 cr INR. The all-rounder has played for the previous Sahara Pune franchise, but his current form in both the ODIs and T20s against the Indian team recently made the franchisees sit up and take an interest in him.

5. Ashish Nehra – Rs. 5.5 cr SRH

Again in favor bowler, veteran Ashish Nehra, who was included in the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup, also got the surprisingly high bid. He was bought for 5.5 cr INR by the Hyderabad franchise. Nehra had previously played for the Chennai team in the last IPL and impressed everyone with his speed and death over bowling.

6. Mohit Sharma – Rs. 6.5 cr KXIP

Another Chennai finds, Mohit Sharma was bought for a whopping 6.5 cr INR by the Punjab franchise. Currently out of the Indian team due to an injury, Mohit made his name in the ICC World Cup 2015, after coming in as a replacement for injured Ishant Sharma and assisted Mohd. Shami. He played a vital role in the team since with his line and length bowling and wonderful fielding efforts.

He is definitely a good buy for the Punjab franchise.

7. Chris Morris – Rs. 7 cr DD

South African all-rounder Chris Morris was surprise buy by Chennai in the last auction, but he served them well with his more than average speed and some much needed runs at the end. He then served the Rajasthan franchise last year and now was bought by Delhi franchise for 7 cr INR. Delhi wanted a top quality all-rounder and a good fast bowler to assist Zaheer Khan and they got it.

8. Yuvraj Singh – Rs. 7 cr SRH

The most expensive buy in the last two previous auctions, Yuvraj Singh also raised interest in him by many franchises that see him as a marquee addition to their team. His former team RCB tried their best to buy him back. But SRH beat them to the price and bought Yuvraj for a still eye opening price of 7 cr INR.

10. Pawan Negi – Rs. 8.5 cr DD

Pawan Negi was named in the Indian T20 squad for the Asia Cup T20 and the ICC World T20 2016 to be held in India. No one expected Negi to go for the 8.5 cr INR price, but after an intense bidding war between Delhi and Pune, DD eventually grabbed him.

Negi is a left arm spinner and hard hitting batsman at no.7, who had a very good Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. It is a big step forward for Negi, who was brought by the Chennai franchise in the last auction for his base price of 10 lakh INR.

11. Shane Watson – Rs. 9.5 cr RCB

Captain of now suspended Rajasthan Royals team, Shane Watson was supposed to be the hottest pick for any team in the IPL 2016 auction. And the prediction came true when Pune, Mumbai and Bangalore franchisees got into a bidding war for the all-rounder.

Listed at a base price of 2 cr INR, Watson was finally secured by the Royal Bangalore Challengers for a whopping sum of 9.5 cr INR. His inclusion makes RCB’s top order, one of the best top orders of any team in franchise based T20 cricket with the likes of Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers accompanying Shane Watson.
