Sterling, would wear the No.7 shirt for The Citizens, and has already undergone all the necessary medical checks this last Tuesday. A deal was struck between Liverpool and Manchester City late Sunday afternoon and the transfer would cost City initially £44m, followed by a further £5m due in add-ons.
They have also agreed to a five-term contract worth approximately £200,000 a week with Sterling and are now waiting for the young striker to clear his medical and join them on their International Champions Cup tour to Australia later this week.
Confirming the news on Sterling’s transfer Manchester City manager Pellegrini addressed the press and said “Raheem Sterling is one of the best attacking players in world football, and I am very much looking forward to him joining our squad out in Australia later this week.
He is a young player with outstanding talent, and I am sure Man City and his fans will be very excited about seeing him in action for the team.”
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers also spoke to the press on Liverpool’s behalf and confirmed the news that Sterling would be moving to Manchester City and cleared the air that they were parting on good terms and that there was no issue between him and Sterling, he said “I spoke to Raheem at length yesterday, there is no issue.
Two clubs have agreed a deal and subject to a medical he will move on.”
He then added “Contrary to the last week or so, in terms of what was written, Raheem and I have always remained very strong in our relationship. There’s no issue there.”
Sterling was part of Liverpool FC team since 2012 and appeared for a total of 95 matches for the club, in those 95 appearances Sterling scored 18 goals. Earlier this year Sterling was named Liverpool’s ‘Young Player of the Season’ but was booed while receiving the award as he had refused to sign a new contract with the club.
The talks about dispute between him and Rodgers have been making rounds since early this year as Rodgers had claimed Sterling was offered “an incredible deal” to stay at Liverpool which in turn was refused by the 20 year old.
Back in 2014 Sterling had also received the Golden Boy award for 2014 from a pan-European panel of sports reporters, recognising him as the only best under-21 player from Europe
Besides his 95 appearances for Liverpool FC, Sterling has also already made 16 appearances for the England national squad and scored has once in those appearances. The youngster is still part of England’s Under 21 squad and is expected to have a huge impact in his club and England’s future.
