Tim Paine replaces George Bailey as Hobart Hurricanes Captain for Big Bash 2015-16: In a new development at the Big Bash franchise Hobart Hurricanes, wicket-keeper Tim Paine will replace George Bailey as the captain for the upcoming BBL season 2015-16.
The Big Bash 2015-16 will start on 18 Dec and Hobart Hurricanes will play their first match against Sydney Sixers on Dec 20 in Sydney Cricket Ground. Find Big Bash Schedule Here.
Bailey declared on Thursday that he had resigned from his position as Hurricanes skipper so that he could focus more on his busy international career with the Australian Cricket team.
The captaincy will now be passed on to Tim Paine, who in fact; stepped down as Bailey’s vice-captain at the domestic first class team of Tasmania last year in his own attempt to ponder on his game.
30-year-old Paine has played 4 tests in 2010 for Australia and also 26 ODIs for the national team. He has a century in ODI highest score of 111 and a test best of 92 runs.
His career took a halt when he injured his finger in India and had to return back for surgery. In the process of healing, he reinjured his finger which put a question mark on his cricketing career, but Paine managed to make his way back into the Tasmania team.
George Bailey who committed to the Hurricanes franchise has been an integral part of the Australian limited over format due to his experience and calm attitude in the middle order. Since the retirement of Michael Clarke, Bailey has taken over the senior player role and has assisted new captain Steven Smith in rebuilding the ODI team.
Tim Paine said on his appointment as Hurricanes’ captain,” “I’m happy to be leading the boys in purple in BBL|05 and I can’t wait for the team to come together in December in the build-up to the tournament,” he said. He added, “We have a really strong team and we are keen to put on a show for members and fans.”
The decision also looks correct seeing that Bailey would be available for the December part of Hurricanes’ campaign for BBL 05. But he would have to leave for national duty for Australia’s ODI and T20I series against India in January 2016.
Australia’s will play 5-match series against India from January 12 to January 23, 2016.
