India lost the first ODI against South Africa by 5 runs, after MS Dhoni took the match to the last over and Kagiso Rabada bowled what was a brilliant last over and defended 11 runs.

Before Dhoni’s antics in 1st ODI, Rohit Sharma hit a brilliant 150 to bring India to the door of victory and the only thing was that he couldn’t stay there to finish the job. Hence South Africa won the match with Imran Tahir picking up 2 wickets in his last over and AB de Villiers with a brilliant century that took South Africa to a substantial total.

4th ODI Highlights: India made 299 for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs in 4th ODI of Paytm Trophy Gandhi-Mandela Series 2015. Virat Kohli Century leads India to reach to 300 runs target. Rohit Sharma and Dhawan make the 1st wicket partnership of 28 runs. Virat Kohli, Raina and Rahane are top 3 scorers in India today’s match with South Africa.

  • Kohli - 138 of 140 Balls
  • Raina- 53 of 52 balls.
  • Rahane - 45 of 53 balls

2nd ODI Highlights: The caravan now moved to Indore’s Holkar Stadium and India batted first after winning the toss on a pitch were the average first innings score is 300+ and is the same ground where Virender Sehwag hit 219 against West Indies in 2011.

But it was not to be India’s day when Kagiso Rabada dismissed last match’s highest scorer Rohit Sharma with a wonderful yorker for 3. Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane tried to steady the ship but lost Dhawan to Morkel for 23 and then Virat Kohli for 12 in a horrible mix up which ended in both Kohli and Rahane at the same end and Kohli being run out.

In walked captain MS Dhoni with the team at 82/3 in the 13 over and played an innings on par with this 113 against Pakistan in 2013. Rahane scored 51 before Tahir bowling him behind his legs and Raina following him caught down the leg by De Kock on the bowling of Morkel for a duck.

After brief partnerships with Axar Patel (13) and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar (14), Dhoni found a partner in Harbhajan Singh who made 22. Dhoni himself scored 92 runs out of the 165 runs scored in the last 30 overs or so. India ended up with 247/9 with Dhoni ending yet another innings with a six.

South Africa came out to chase the total of 248 and began on a very positive note. Both Amla and De Kock started with boundaries with Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bearing the brunt of De Kock’s boundaries while Amla hit some beautiful boundaries.

But Dhoni knew it would be spin that will trouble them and bought Axar on early and he was rewarded with the wicket of Amla whe he was stumped trying to repeated a shot which had bought him a boundary early on. And Harbhajan accounted for De Kock who tried to hit a lofted shot too many.

Du Plessis and Duminy came together to stitch an 80 odd run partnership and threatened to take the game away from India. Du Plessis especially was playing the spinners well and was hitting boundaries easily. But a brilliant catch by Kohli ended Du Plessis’ innings on Axar’s delivery for 51 off 56. And then Axar caught Duminy in the front of wickets for 36.

Dhoni brought on Mohit Sharma and he accounted for the biggest wicket of all, AB de Villiers for just 19 to a brilliant diving catch by Virat Kohli. Bhuvaneshwar sent back Miller for a first ball duck. Behardien and Steyn threatened to take the match away from India and both hit some big shots including a six by Steyn.

But Yadav dismissed Steyn and Harbhajan got Behardien to a leg side catch, a decision that was dubious and again all the eyes will be on umpire Vineet Kulkarni. The tail tried to wag, but Bhuvaneshwar Kumar accounted for both Imran Tahir and Morne Morkel in the 43rd over to win the match for India, with Kagiso Rabada stranded on 19 runs.

MS Dhoni won the Man of the match for his 92* off 86 balls with 4 sixes and 7 fours.

Scorecard:

India 247/9 (Dhoni 92*, Rahane 51; Steyn 3/32) defeated
South Africa 225 (Du Plessis 51, Duminy 36; Patel 3/39) by 22 runs.

The next match will be played in Rajkot on 17th October 2015 which will again be a day night encounter.
