With English Primer League 2015 just weeks away and teams already gearing up for the new season, we thought it’s time we brought you few interesting random fun facts about Premier League football that we think might get you interested.

 

  • Ok, first thing first that the English Premiership started way back on 15th August 1992 and that the Premiership itself was formed that same year on 20th February 1992.
  • The First English Premiership goal was scored by Brian Deane of Sheffield United.
  • While the English Premier League started in 1992, since 1994-1995 only four teams, that is Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea FC and Arsenal have won the league since then.
  • While we wait for the 24th edition of the “English” Premier League, you would be surprised to know that No English manager in history has ever won the League Title.
  • While no ‘English’ manager has ever won any EPL title, we have Sir Alex Ferguson of Scottish origin and former Manchester United manager won 12 Premier League Titles.

  • While we now know the English Premier League as Barclay Premier League, before 2004, the League was sponsored by Carling 1993-2001 and Barclay Card 2001-2004. Since 2014 Barclays has been the League’s biggest sponsors.
  • The highest scoring game in English Premier League history was back in 1994-95 when Manchester United defeated Ipswich 9-0 in a league game. Andy Cole was the highest scorer for that match and scored 5 times during that game.
  • EPL 2014-15 Champions Chelsea FC also holds a dubious record of having earned over 1200 yellow card bookings in past 23 seasons.
  • Chelsea also holds the record of having earned most points in an English Premier League season. Back in 2004-05 they had won the EPL title with ninety-five points.
  • Former Manchester United player and the club’s new assistant coach holds the record for most appearance by a player in EPL, he appeared in 672 games for Manchester United and scored`114 goals in his 24 year career for the club.
  • There are only 7 teams in English Premier League history who have never been relegated; these are Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham.
  • Alan Shearer holds the record for most English Premier Leagues goals; he has scored a massive 260 goals in his career.
  • Liverpool player Robbie Fowler scored English Premier League’s fastest hat-trick. He scored three goals against Arsenal in just 4 minutes 23 seconds.

  • Liverpool entered the English Premier League as the team with the most First Division titles, but in the past 23 years has never won the Premier League Title.
  • Besides having scored most English Premier League goals (260) Alan Shearer also holds the record for having the most number of hat-tricks in English Premier League history. Shearer scored 11 premiership hat tricks in his career.
