Five Foreign players to Watch out for ISL 2015: While the ISL 2015 signings for the second season of Indian Super League is on at full strength, we thought we should have a look at 5 foreign players to watch out for this season. While many will say those will this year’s Marquee Players, we would point out last year’s Indian Super League where the majority of the Marquee players failed to perform while little known foreign players took the cake and the ball away from them.
Here is a list of our 5 Players for Indian Super League season 2 –
1. Hans Mulder:
While getting Delhi Dynamos captain Hans Mulder back into the team was said to be a tough for many, there were few players that Dynamos knew that had to retain for the second time around and Mulder was one of them. While on the foreign front Delhi retained just two players, by signing Mulder it shows Dynamos would be most likely be looking at him to lead the Delhi team again.
2. Gustavo Marmentini dos Santos aka Marmentini:
While Mulder was Dynamos’s prime choice as captain, if there is one player that could match Mulder and surpass him in goal scoring last season, then that was young Brazilian midfielder Gustavo Marmentini. Marmentini was Delhi’s leading goal scorer last season and the Dynamo’s would be hoping that he continues that this season around as well.
3. Elano Blumer:
After finishing top of the table last season, Chennayin FC‘s decided to retain star player Elano Blumer early this year. Elano, who would be Chennayin’s marquee player this season as well, created maximum impact in ISL season 1 and was one of the most popular ISL players amongst fans.
The former Manchester City was popular for his deadly free kicks and pinpoint passing abilities, something that Chennai-based team would be hoping he brings around this time as well so they can cross that final hurdle that they missed last season.
4. Iain Hume:
Iain Hume of Kerala Blasters FC celebrates a goal during match 54 of the Hero Indian Super League between Kerala Blasters FC and FC Pune City
31-year-old Canadian International player Iain Hume was a relatively unknown name when he came in Indian Super League (ISL) season 1, but distinguishable because of his bald head with a scar, Hume soon impressed every Kerala Blasters fan there was and made his presence felt he scored 5 goals in 16 appearances for his Indian Super League team and the feat also got him the golden ball of season one.
Hume might not be with last year’s finalist Kerala Blasters this time around, but his performance was such last season that rival team Atletico de Kolkata signed him up for ISL season 2. With true skills and a champion team besides him, Hume can only do better this time around.
5. Nicolas Anelka:
Former Chelsea player Nicolas Anelka is a man of few words and does all his Indian Super League talking with his playing skills. While Mumbai City FC had a miserable start last Indian Super League season, no one could deny they had some star players in their team who just faced really bad luck. While others faltered around him, Anelka, who couldn’t play initial few ISL matches due to an FIFA ban made sure that when he came back on the field, every eye was on him.
Known for his speed and ball controlling skills, Anelka also would have a team of his choice to this time around as he would serve both has Mumbai City FC team player and a manager. Looking at how he performed last year, one can only hope he will just be even better this time around with a team that will be of his choice.
