Argentina Thrashes Paraguay 6-1 in Copa America 2015-Semi Finals

Producing one of their best results so far in the tournament, Argentina on Tuesday crushed Paraguay to a 6-1 defeat.

It was a day when everything went right for the Argentineans while everything went south for the Paraguayan.

Going into this game both teams had something to watch out for as both sides had 3 players each who were carrying a yellow card into this game. Also though Argentina surely had the upper hand coming into this semi-final, their previous group stage encounter against the Paraguayans had taught them not to take the underdogs lightly (Paraguay drew the game 2-2 after trailing 2-0 initially).

The game started with the Paraguay team starting on a defensive line up and with the Argentineans breaking their defensive tactics in the matter of minutes with some brilliant play from their end.

It was on the matter only a matter time before defender Marcos Rojo opened Argentina’s account in the 15th minute of the game. He left-footed the ball from about 10 yards after Lionel Messi had swung it in with a free kick from the left.

It was not even another fifteen minutes when midfielder Javier Pastore doubled the lead for Argentineans in the 27th minute.

The two-goal lead had not even sunk in for the Argentineans, when Paraguayans yet again proved they are still in the game with a brilliant goal by Paraguay forward Lucas Barrios in the 43rd minute.

It was the only game on from there on as both teams went in for halftime.

But it seemed that the break had only made Argentina more determined not to let it slip again and almost as soon they were back, a brilliant team play followed by two goals from Angel Di María in the 47th minute and again in the 53rd minute secured a 4-1 lead over Paraguayans.

It just went downhill for Paraguay from there on and as they were not able to keep up with Argentina and were further punished by them with two more goals in 80th and 83rd minutes scored by Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain respectively.
