Giroud gave Arsenal the lead when he scored from the spot. The penalty was a resultant of Villa right-back Hutton holding Theo Walcott inside the box, just seven minutes into the game. Giroud deceived Aston Villa goalkeeper Guzan to initialise the scoring.
Arsenal continued to push for a second, but the spirit of gunners were dampened by the early goal, along with lacklustre counter-play from Villains. Koscielny missed a glorious chance, which arose from Mesut Ozil’s free kick. However, Arsenal scored the second with Ozil assisting unselfishly for Aaron Ramsey to slot into the net. The script for the second goal was brilliant as quick counter-attack from Arsenal left Aston Villa shell-shocked.

Aston Villa began the second half on an assertive note, attacking with vigour, but Cech was barely tested as attempts from Gestede and Sanchez flew wide of the post. Chances were missed on the other end of the pitch as well, as Joel Campbell misjudged the pass and ran too sticky to an offside call, which was unless a great opportunity.
