AB de Villiers 119 Highlights: The India vs South Africa PayTm ODI series went 2-2 into the final match at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. It is the same venue where India won the 2011 World Cup and the least international match here was the last Test of Sachin Tendulkar before he called time on his career.
The pitch had nothing in it for the bowlers and South Africa struck gold when AB de Villiers won the toss and chose to bat first on this pitch. South Africa brought in Dean Elgar, Kyle Abbott in the team, whereas India went in unchanged.
But it proved to be carnage from ball one for India. Amla got stuck into Mohit Sharma, hitting him for 3 successive fours in his 23 off 13 balls before falling to him. Then it became the De Kock and Du Plessis show as both of them upped the ante of scoring the runs and no bowler was spared. The duo added 154 runs as
Quinton De Kock scored his 5th century vs India
De Kock completed his 8th ODI hundred and 5th against India. De Kock fell for 109 off 87 balls to Raina after probably confirming his country’s victory in this series.
Du Plessis was then joined by the explosive AB de Villiers and both of them just exploded on the Indian bowlers. Apart from Harbhajan, each and every bowler went for an economy of more than 8 runs per over. Du Plessis completed his hundred and also made his highest ODI score of 133* off 115 balls before the humidity and heat got to him and he had to retire hurt after adding 184 runs for the 3rd wicket.
De Villiers carried on in his own style and completed another hundred, his 23rd in just 57 deliveries. He was finally dismissed for 109 off 61 balls with 11 sixes. What was unbelievable was to see India dropping 4 catches including that of De Kock, Du Plessis, and Behardien. Also, there seemed to be no plan in Indian bowling whatsoever. It’s like they had resigned themselves to getting hit to all over the park
South Africa went past the highest scored at Wankhede Stadium, which were 358 scored by New Zealand against Canada in the 2011 World Cup. They ended up scoring 438/4.
