Just like Movie celebs, footballers too have a brand of blind fan followings that follow them for their on-field reputation than how the players are in real life. While many remain loyal to their on-field Hero than see his off-field tactics, there are few who still attract hatred towards them even though they know that they are one of the best player there is.
5) Emmanuel Adebayor
Emmanuel Adebayor
Emmanuel Adebayor exploded onto the English Premier League scene as one of the most promising strikers of the time. After performing one of his best season and establishing himself for Arsenal FC the Togolese footballer then suddenly dropped the bomb and man he went on and joined Manchester City. While this might be has become a common practice and we won’t blame the striker for looking out for his career. His tactics in front of his former fans won’t win him any sportsman of the year award. Adebayor not only scored a goal against his former team but then went a step ahead after bombing the length of the pitch to perform an over the top knee slide in front of his former fans. A performance left a bad taste in many fans mouth and will not win Adebayor any loyal fans any time soon.
4) Pepe
Pepe
While the Portuguese centre-back Pepe is one of the toughest player in La Liga, he is also one of the most hated badly reputed player due to his diving antics. The Portuguese is known to dive even to the tiniest of contact, an antic which has earned him a very bad reputation throughout the world both among his fans and other footballers. Also his constant stamping on Argentina captain Lionel Messi has not gone down well with many and will not gain him any admirers anytime soon.
3) Ashley Cole
Ashley Cole
English player Ashley Cole might have become a fine addition to the England squad back in the day, the former Chelsea had a huge backlash of fans against himself when in his book he claimed that he was disgusted at his former club Arsenal’s (who also launched him) offer of £50,000 per week. If the backlash from his Arsenal fans was not bad enough, Cole later shooting of a youth team player at Chelsea with an air rifle also lost him many fans in Chelsea FC. To put a cherry on the top of this hatred, whatever small amount of fans that he had left after that, must have halved when after being married to one of the most beautiful women in England, Cheryl Tweedy he went on and cheated on her with allegedly not one but many women.
2) Luis Suarez
Luis Suarez
The Uruguayan might have has enjoyed two back to back good seasons for his exceptional form but the 28 year old has a reputation and a long list bad rap and previous infringements which to date follow and haunt him. While the accusations of racism and diving are nothing new for football players, Luis Suarez also has a dubious reputation of biting people. The Uruguayan has bitten opponents on not one but three occasions, a feat which has not won him any friends and rather almost cost him his FC Barcelona deal even before the season started. Suarez also is reputed to being a villain on the international stage as he was once blasted for handling a shot on the line in 2010 World Cup against Ghana and then again in 2014 World Cup When he bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during an international match, and then dived holding his teeth, the incidence not only got the Uruguayan a lot of criticism on international level, but also got Suarez banned from nine international matches, something that put him out from 2015 Copa America as well and also banned him from taking part in any football-related activity including entering any stadium for four months, something that made him miss two months of Premier League season with FC Barcelona.
1) John Terry
John Terry
While many would have expected to have Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo on top of the list, the fact is despite being arrogant, greedy and distasteful, no one can deny Ronaldo of having natural skills that can put many to shame, he still is nowhere close where England and Chelsea player John Terry stands. From hurling racist abuse to adultery to bringing shame to his team after celebrating in full kit despite being suspended, he has done it all. What doesn’t help his case he that back in January 2010 news had also come out that John Terry had a four-month long affair in late 2009 with Vanessa Perroncel, the former girlfriend of Wayne Bridge, his former Chelsea and England teammate, something for which a high-court judge had taken out a Super-injunction preventing the media from reporting the allegations.
